Malaysia has become one of the most sought-after meeting destinations in the Asia-Pacific, offering groups a comprehensive package of first-rate accommodations, venues, and infrastructure. In 2016, Malaysia hosted 65 associations and conventions; and 283 corporate meeting and incentive groups and has been ranked 25th out of 138 economies under the Global Competitive Index 2016-2017.

Boasting a wide range of attractions and known for its friendly hospitality, Kuala Lumpur was recently ranked by Skytrax as the 7th best in the world’s best airport staff service to ensure maximum levels of passenger satisfaction.

Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and Putrajaya (the administrative capital), offers three convention centres — Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), and MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Centre. A fourth is on the way — completion of the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) is projected by 2018. A modern city, Kuala Lumpur is thick with five-star hotels, high-speed Internet infrastructure, and several world’s largest shopping malls having been recognised as the 5th best shopping destination in the world ranked by Expedia UK 2016.

Moving north, Penang offers a mix of history (the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site), modern meeting facilities, and some of the best hawker-style food in Malaysia. Venues include the Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre — Penang’s largest with capacity of up to 13,000 — and the Straits Quay Convention Centre (2,000 capacity for seated functions), while in 2017, the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre will open with more than 100,000 sqf of meeting space.

When it’s time to start planning, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) makes the important introductions, connecting planners to regional bureaus, DMCs, PCOs, and other industry-related businesses. MyCEB also consult on choosing the right venue, liaison with government bodies, assistance with promotional collaterals, and much more.
