Off-site venues and attractions in Seoulby Shannon Sweeney 21-Jan-10, 09:12
Half-day programme for conference groups
Seoul is a mostly flat city that is best seen with a tour bus combined with several long walks during the day:9am The morning begins with a hotel pick-up on a private coach. Delegates get an early opportunity to stretch their legs with a walk along Cheonggyechon – a natural stream that runs through the centre of Seoul.
The stream spent several decades under roadways and buildings, but was recently uncovered as part of an urban renewal project. Its banks have been transformed into a cultural space used for exhibitions and art displays. 10am The next destination is a tour of Gyeongbokgung Palace, one of Korea’s most iconic and beautiful buildings – despite the palace having been destroyed several times by fire since it was first built in 1395. The walking tour through the palace grounds can take up to an hour. 11.30am The Blue House is the next venue to visit. This blue-roofed building at the foot of Mt Bugaksan is the Korean president’s work office, which explains the high security in the area. Tours are available with advance booking of at least one week. 12.30pm Finally it is time for a traditional Korean lunch at Samcheonggak, located near the Blue House. Samcheonggak is on the side of Mt Bugkasan and is home to several traditional Korean-style houses that can be used for meetings and banquets. ![]()
