Outdoor venues in Singapore

Venues and gardens for hosting memorable functions

Marina Barrage is gaining popularity for large-scale events thanks to its fresh design, set against the stunning backdrop of Marina Bay. The Green Roof holds up to 10,000 people, but can be sub-divided into four smaller areas. At the Singapore International Water Week closing ceremony and dinner at the Inner Courtyard in June, 1,200 delegates enjoyed ethnic-themed local fare at food stations, followed by entertainment and trishaw rides.

OUTDOOR EVENTS
As well as scenic rides, events can be staged at the Singapore Flyer’s outdoor Flyer Theatre (240-300 persons) or Sky Deck (250 persons) located above the carpark building, with the giant wheel as a backdrop.

Fort Canning Park received international TV coverage through the inaugural F1 Rocks concert, but smaller corporate and association events can also be arranged. Fort Canning Green & Patio holds 3,000 to 5,000 people, 500 at Fort Gate; or 150 to 200 at Picnic Terrace.

At HortPark in Telok Blangah, outdoor spaces include the Event Lawn holding more than 1,000 people, and HortLawn with capacity for 600. The rooftop garden of the Botany Centre at Singapore Botanic Gardens holds up to 80 people seated or 200 standing. Both work well for indoor seminars or product launches.

Verve Bar & Bistro at Gillman Village is gaining a steady stream of corporate groups from the international sector of Singapore for cocktails, barbecues, dinners and networking evenings. The partially canopied Outdoor Deck holds 65 guests seated or 100 standing. Regular customer Juliet Stannard, director, Citiprop Pacific, says of her most recent dinner for 100 guests: “We had so many comments about how great the food was, how lovely the staff were and how the whole evening was a really wonderful experience. Everybody had a fantastic time.”

TENTED SETTINGS
Gardenasia, in Singapore’s Kranji countryside, offers ‘agri-tainment’ in various open and tented settings for 70 to 500 people, or more than 1,000 for company family days. A government agency recently booked the whole farm for 1,500 staff members and families, who enjoyed fishing, games stalls, performances and food.

The Hunting Cooks teambuilding event for groups of 30 or more provides hours of entertainment. Companies say it’s a great way to bond and have fun in a natural setting.

Bollywood Veggies, a smaller Kranji farm, has an al fresco area for 80 people and the Dome can hold another 80. The farm also offers unique corporate retreats, staff training workshops and teambuilding programmes.

Discovery Harvest, a teambuilding activity, involves searching for different plants in a treasure hunt. Winning teams receive farm produce as prizes. The herb-potting workshop encourages hands-on lessons and participants take home their own plant.

A spokesman for Philips Electronics Singapore, which recently took 105 of its staff there, says: “We were impressed with the service and handling of such a big group. Our people enjoyed searching for the plants and had a great experience potting the herbs.”
