The region's best rooftop venues

by Megan Gell    5-Mar-09, 10:00
Three function venues with world-class views and decor

RED SKY, BANGKOK
Red Sky opened in October in the final phase of Bangkok’s new mixed-use development, CentralWorld. The
contemporary urban bistro covers the entire outdoor area of the 55th floor and seats up to 150 guests. A long Martini bar and wine bar serve more than 20 wines by the glass. Indoor seating is available for 80 diners where a resident jazz pianist and vocalist perform.

For fine dining, the hotel’s signature restaurant, Fifty Five, seats up to 122 diners over the 54th and 55th floors. A two-storey, glass-walled wine cellar at the restaurant’s centre is attended by ‘wine angels’ – real people in harnesses who swoop up and down collecting the bottles of wine ordered.

SEVVA, HONG KONG
This stylish restaurant and bar opened in 2008 in the former penthouse at the top of the Princes’ Building in Central. Sevva’s wide terrace wraps around the 25th floor and offers 360-degree views of Central and Victoria Harbour from a new vantage point.

The outdoor terrace can host up to 300 for cocktails or seat 60 for dinner. The indoor dining area serves traditional Asian cuisines mixed with Western fine dining. Taste Bar can hold 63 guests, while Harbour Side offers relaxed dining for up to 62. Bank Side has a more formal menu and décor, and seats 48 guests. Both open onto the terrace.

LOOF, SINGAPORE
Loof is an impressive venue for night-time functions with views of the Singapore skyline and the colonial-era Raffles Hotel Singapore, which is opposite. The rooftop bar can be found at the top of Odeon Towers. The deck features trees with colourful lights while inside, there is a glass-walled area with air conditioning.

Loof has a range of seating options for up to 60 guests on the terrace, or 30 indoors. For cocktail functions, 300 people can enjoy the outdoor and sheltered areas, while the air-conditioned area holds 60.

Levi’s and DKNY recently held product launches here. InterContinental, Raffles and Carlton hotels are nearby.
