Sneak Peek: Inside Singapore's newest event conceptBy Lauren Arena

Huone Events Hotel, a Helskini-based event concept, is set to launch in Singapore’s Clarke Quay this month as the first-of-its-kind in Asia-Pacific.
Taking the concept of meeting design to a whole new level, Huone Singapore (huone means room in Finnish) features a collection of 11 uniquely themed meeting rooms for up to 150 guests combined with on-site event management services.
Inspired by scenes of Old Clarke Quay and the brand’s home base in Finland, Huone Singapore's innovative spaces are designed to stimulate creativity and encourage discussion with rooms that emulate igloos, a bird’s nest and a sandbox.
Before it’s grand opening on February 23, CEI Asia took a look around to discover what awaits event planners in this ‘hotel without beds’.
“It’s like walking into Narnia,” says Huone Events Hotel founder and CEO, Evon Söderlund. “We are innovating meeting design and it is our goal to disrupt and shake up events industry as a whole."
Targeting small to medium groups, Söderlund says the focus is on quality, not quantity.
“We are focusing on cosier spaces, providing end-to-end event needs, from event planning and food and beverage service, to live entertainment and event technology.”
Highlights inlcude the Runway room (45-75 people), with glowing furniture and chalkboard walks and and a boardroom table that doubles as a runway; the Igloo room with a Northern Lights effect; and the Swing room (25-45 pax) which features swinging chairs suspended from the ceiling, a tree house and beanbags.
The custom-designed, highly flexible rooms are suitable for a range of events, from seminars and board meetings, to team building, company retreats and product launches.
All rooms are soundproof and revolve around a common dining area (designed to encourage networking between groups) where buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner is served. Set menus featuring local dishes and a few Finnish favourites are also available for private dining.
Joewin Tan, managing director of Singapore-based events company Linear Dots Production will take the helm at Huone Singapore as CEO. She says the ‘events hotel’ concept fill a gap in the local market.
"I expect event planners and corporates to be very excited by our concept. As an event planner myself, when I met Evon in 2014 I knew that I found the answer to what many of my corporate clients have been asking for—creative and flexible meeting rooms that promote collaboration and productivity.
“Singapore is one of the world’s leading MICE cities and we have one of the highest saturation of meeting venues, from hotels to convention centres, to other smaller players who offer meeting rooms. Yet, nobody offers creative meeting venues. It often costs event planners an arm and a leg to ‘build’ a creative venue for their clients."
“We hope that we inspire the rest of the players in Singapore to think differently and be bold,” she says.
Tan will lead a team of in-house event co-ordinators who will assist in designing and managing events. Alternatively, corporates and planners can book, manage and pay for their event via Huone’s online reservation platform, Eventsome, which also features an event ROI calculator.
The brainchild of husband and wife entrepreneurs Jussi and Evon Söderlund, Huone Singapore is the brand’s first international outpost following the success of Huone Helsinki, which launched in 2012.
