Marriott International is set to open its second property in Myanmar with the recent signing of Courtyard by Marriott Yangon, set to open in 2019.
Owned by Hotel Sule Square Co. and located in the former capital and commercial centre of the country, the new-build hotel will form part of a mixed-use development.
The city hotel will feature 200 guestrooms and suites, a rooftop pool, executive lounge and four meeting rooms totalling 400sqm. Dining options include a restaurant serving local and international cuisine, a grab-and-go café, and lounge bar.
"Myanmar holds immense potential as a new tourism destination in Southeast Asia given its rich history and natural beauty,” says Karl Hudson, area vice president, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar at Marriott International.
“Demand is expected to grow as the government and economy are stabilising; with business travel picking up due to increased investment in various business sectors, and the leisure segment looking promising as Myanmar relaxes its visa policies and continues to market its unique destinations."
Located in the gateway city of Yangon, the Courtyard by Marriott Yangon is only 45 minutes away from Yangon International Airport, while key attractions such the Sule Pagoda (pictured), City Hall and Bogyoke Aung San Market are all within walking distance.
