InterContinental Shanghai NECC opened for business in the new Hongqiao CBD in September last year. The hotel is located in Section D of the NECC—billed as the largest single building and exhibition complex in the world, with 500,000 sqm of exhibition and commercial space. The 536-room hotel itself features 2,200 sqm of event space, including 10 meeting rooms and a nine-metre-high pillarless grand ballroom that can seat 900 guests in theatre style.
New in town
Set to open at the end of June, the 374-room W Shanghai—The Bund, along the banks of the Huangpu River and located in Puxi’s tallest building, will offer 5,800 sqm of events space. The largest space—the Great Room—can host 1,100 banquet guests. Twelve function rooms will have natural daylight while the outdoor Wet Deck on the fourth floor can be used for summer events, seating up to 129. A 47-metre-tall annex to the building will serve as exhibition halls.
Also scheduled to open in June, Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li is located within the cultural preservation zone of Shanghai’s Xuhui district. The venue, an “all-villa urban resort” in one of the last remaining cluster of historical shikumen (19th-century brick townhouses) estates, will feature 55 villas, The Capella Library, a French brasserie, Auriga spa and retail.
For the ultimate in high-end experiences, and due to launch at the end of this month, The St. Regis Shanghai Jingan is located in the heart of bustling Jing’an district. The towering property offers 480 rooms and 11 areas for events, spanning more than 2,900 sqm, including a 1,400-sqm ballroom.
Aman’s fourth destination in China has pencilled in an opening date of autumn this year. The opulent Amanyangyun—Shanghai, located just beyond the city’s downtown area, will offer 24 club suites and 13 antique villas with tranquil courtyards, surrounded by a camphor forest. Six dining venues will be available, including a 200-seat banquet hall, while the spa complex will feature 10 treatment rooms.
Another high-end Shanghai boutique hotel opening, China’s first Bulgari Hotel is primed for launch in Q4 2017. The 82-room debut will be housed in the uppermost eight floors of a 40-storey building located in the riverside complex of the historic Jing’an district. Featuring an ancient design with modern touches, the venue will have a rooftop Italian restaurant and bar.
For late-night entertainment, a live music venue— Modernsky Lab— is set to open this month in Hongkou district, with a capacity for up to 1,000 revellers.
