Upgrades and renovations in the Thai capital

RIVERSIDE EVENTS
Shangri-La’s recent US$60 million renovation added the Garden Rooms, a residential-style meetings facility on its ground floor. The six-room facility can host groups of up to 120 people, with a karaoke room and a large kitchen area for breaks.

PwC and IBM have already held events here. The garden area houses a refurbished Salathip restaurant, with an expanded capacity to seat 140 people. Larger groups can book the upgraded Next2 Café, which seats 550 people.

The new larger lobby now includes floor-toceiling windows overlooking the river, making it ideal for custom fireworks displays. The new ballroom offers direct access to the driveway.

Banyan Tree is popular with smaller meeting and incentive groups and recently hosted a three-day, two-night programme for 60 Standard Chartered Bank employees, which included a welcome dinner at rooftop favourite Vertigo, and the Apsara dinner cruise.

The hotel also provides expert shopping companions to accompany delegates or their spouses on trips to the markets and stores.

The hotel’s meeting facilities include a contemporary foyer with a central bar area that recently hosted a networking event for 400 people. The hotel’s 2,500 sqm Playground lawn area is a good space for teambuilding events.
UPGRADED FACILITIES

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit has upgraded its meeting facilities with ergonomic chairs and LCD screens, and is about to upgrade all technical equipment to wireless. The hotel is offering a full-day meeting package for US$45 per person that also includes Starwood’s You Choose programme.

As part of the Luxury Collection, the hotel can incorporate local experiences such as Thai cooking classes and themed packages, together with off-site catering at traditional venues. Lufthansa recently hosted a dinner at the Siam Society for 120 people as part of this initiative.

InterContinental has completed a two-year renovation programme with the recent opening of its new lobby and lounge area. The Oasis area is suitable for poolside cocktail functions for up to 80 people, while the ballroom features 8m high ceilings.

There are another 11 meeting rooms with digital signage and a secretariat. The hotel is directly connected to the Holiday Inn will add LCD televisions to all guestrooms this quarter and already provides WiFi access throughout. It recently hosted an event for Toshiba.
