About Shanghai
Shanghai is called in Chinese“Hu”for short and“Shen”as a nickname. It is situated at the central point of China's East coast. It covers an area of 6,340 square kilometers and has a population of 23 million. Shanghai is one of China’s largest and most prosperous city, and the hub of finance, transportation and trade.

Shanghai is one of China’s major tourist cities. It offers many spectacular views and different perspectives; ancient and modern; Eastern and Western; and high-speed and slow-paced. Entering Shanghai, you will immediately be overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of a thriving city: its colors, its people, its futuristic skyscrapers and indigenous Shikumen houses.

The World Expo 2010 Shanghai China was successfully held in Shanghai. In the same year, the city received 8.51 million international tourists. Thanks to the Expo, Shanghai's infrastructure improved further. The new Hongqiao transportation hub comprises an international airport, a long distance bus station and a train station with access to the high-speed rail net work, providing easy access to neighboring cities.

After the World Expo, convention and event capacity as well as the service quality in the city has been greatly increased. By the end of 2010, the city had 307 star-rated hotels, included 42 five-star hotels. The Mercedes-Benz Arena, the Expo center and the World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center in the Expo site have become great options for off-site events and entertainment.

Climate

With a pleasant northern subtropical maritime monsoon climate, Shanghai enjoys four distinct seasons, generous sunshine and abundant rainfall. Its spring and autumn are relatively short compared with summer and winter. The average annual temperature is 18 degrees Celsius. The city has a frost-free period lasting up to 230 days a year. The average annual rainfall is 1,200 millimeters (about 50 inches). The highest temperature is in July and August. For ten days or so in these two months, the temperature can reach 35 degrees centigrade. The coldest period is from the end of January to early February - usually during the Chinese Spring Festival.
