KL Convention Centre hosts memorable cocktail reception
Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre general manager Peter Brokenshire talks to CEI Asia about the Australian High Commission’s Australia Day cocktail reception:
What were the specific requirements this year?
The centre has hosted the Australian High Commission’s annual celebration of Australia Day since 2007. The theme for this year’s event needed to showcase Australia’s finest products. We had to use Australian products in the food and drinks presentation and aimed for an elegant ambiance.
How did you meet their needs?
Because it was a high-profile event, the client was prompted to ensure venue availability at an early stage. It was then down to careful and detailed planning by our creative and culinary services team to serve up an occasion that met the client’s brief.
Since the event took place two days after the centre’s Client Appreciation Cocktail reception, there was a time and cost saving, as most of the major venue construction was already in place. This meant the Australian High Commission was presented with a live preview when they attended the Centre’s reception. It also helped minimise the challenges of setting up an event from scratch.
What audiovisual and catering did you provide?
The centre’s catering and preferred supplier provided a high-end audio visual and sound system. Several background scenes were created for a variety of photo opportunities. Photos taken during the evening were printed immediately and handed to guests on their departure. An LED curtain, with an Australian flag visual, lent prominence and relevance to the evening.
The two main ‘chef-in-action a la-minute cooking’ action stations took pride of place with their presentations of the best of Australian produce. The ‘New South Wales’ station served an array of seafood and at the Australian Outback station, there were beef medallions, striploin and tripe, Hillside lamb, turkey, duck and chicken; all cooked with the finest Australian ingredients. Accompanying the food were wines from Australia’s top vineyards.
What were the evening’s highlights?
Hosted by HE Penny Williams, the event provided a fantastic opportunity to network and showcase Australian products.
