Located about an hour from downtown Guangzhou by metro is Foshan, a bustling community with a claim to fame — it is the ancestral home of martial arts icon Bruce Lee.

Not surprisingly, there is a sprawling memorial to the film star known as Bruce Lee Paradise on the outskirts of town in a section calledShunde. With spacious grounds that include a lake, hiking trails, barbecue facilities, cycling, a series of low-rise grey brick structures in traditional Chinese architecture, and other amenities, Bruce Lee Paradise is often used by event organisers looking for an outdoor location.

Foshan also has several temples, parks and refurbished industrial buildings that can used be for everything from product launches to fashion shows to art exhibitions.

The top hotel for MICE activities within the city proper, though, is the Swssôtel Foshan. “With six exclusive meeting and function areas, guests can be sure that every function held here will be truly unforgettable,” says Doris Chen, executive, marketing and communications, Swssôtel Foshan. IBM, Johnson & Johnson and AIA are among clients that have staged events at the hotel.

Located in a development zone with stunning new high rises, upscale shopping malls, and a man-made lake, The InterContinental Foshan is proving a hit with event organisers. “Once our InterContinental Meetings microsite is completely developed, planners can obtain an e-brochure, view a 360-degree hotel virtual tour, check function room availability, and ask for a meeting proposal online. Everything you need is easily accessible via this online tool,” says Carlo Schmed, general manager of InterContinental Foshan.

The 2nd World Conference of Nanhai Worldwide Friendship Federation, which hosted more than 1,000 guests from all over the world, was just one of a number of high-profile events that have been held at the property.
