Convention centres and exhibition organisers across Europe may have strong official regulations to conform to when it comes to eco-friendly events, but venues in Asia are rapidly making a good impression with green meeting pioneers.

The Asia MICE Forum held in Taipei in early November heard about efforts made by convention centres in Italy, Taiwan, Hong Kong and elsewhere to ensure staff and event organisers not only fulfil sustainability criteria, but embrace a commitment to green meetings and events.

Thomas Tong, director of venue operations at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, told the forum that the venue had seen a serious shift in attitudes. He said a committee of senior managers implemented measures that have reduced energy use, increased recycling and raised awareness among staff and venue users.
