TOKYO The 78th International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) General Meeting will be held in Tokyo from November 4-15, 2014, and is expected to attract 1,500 delegates globally.
The win was announced at the 75th IEC General Meeting in Melbourne at the end of October.
Takumi Okuda, director general of Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau (TCVB), said: “Given the extended period of the General Meeting, and the large number of overseas delegates expected to attend, I believe the Meeting will have a significant economic ripple effect.
“From 2012, the appeal of Tokyo as a tourist destination will further increase following the completion of Japan’s tallest tower, Tokyo Sky Tree, along with the restoration and regeneration of Tokyo Station.
“I hope that IEC General Meeting delegates will have a fulfilling and enjoyable time when they visit our city.”
The IEC has held its general meeting in Japan four times since its inception in 1906, the last was Kyoto in 1999.
