Wicked tells the untold story of the witches of Oz and how these two unlikely friends became Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, known to audiences from the classic movie The Wizard of Oz. The show, featuring popular songs such as Defying Gravity, is now in its eighth season on Broadway after winning 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tonys, and debuted on London’s West End in 2006. Fortunately, it has now come to Asia at Marina Bay Sands, from December 7 until January 29. Miso, Seoul
Long-running stage show Miso (“smile”) has been transformed into a high-energy spectacle involving 80 dancers and musicians, and is now a permanent fixture at the 344-seat Chongdong Theatre. The show is performed daily at 4pm and 8pm, Tuesday to Sunday. The Korean musical was first performed in 1997, but since its 2009 reincarnation includes traditional Korean dance, instrumental performances, samulnori (traditional four-piece percussion ensemble) and pansori (traditional Korean narrative song). English, Japanese and Chinese subtitles are available. The theatre also runs a costume experience programme before each show for guests.

Hairspray, Sydney
Hairspray is based on the 1988 Hollywood movie of the same name. Set in Baltimore during the 1960s, it follows the story of Tracy Turnblad, an awkward teenage girl with big hair and a big heart. She lands a spot on the popular dance show “The Corny Collins Show” and subsequently uses her newfound fame to fight for worthy causes. The show has received high praise since opening in 2002, receiving Tony and Oliver awards, as well as a Grammy for Best Show Album. This recent Broadway favourite runs until November 23 at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre, Star City Hotel & Casino. Running time is two and a half hours plus interval.
