HONG KONG
Hong Kong’s premier exhibition venues recorded 25 per cent increases in attendances last year. Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) saw a record of nearly 6 million visitors at 1,235 events during the fiscal year 2010-11, 116 of them exhibitions, 102 repeat shows and 10 new ones.

The 25 per cent increase in HKCEC attendances across the board included 35 repeat exhibitors, which recorded anywhere between 10 and 83 per cent growth in stand space on previous years.

Cliff Wallace, managing director of HKCEC, says: “We take pride in serving recurrent exhibitions and introducing new events to our portfolio, both of which consolidate HKCEC’s position as a preferred venue for event organisers.”

Wallace adds that the management team hosted 39,606 events and served around 70 million people in its 23 years of operation.

AsiaWorld-Expo’s attendances last year were also up 25% on the year before, according to a report by KPMG Transaction Advisory Services. Officials say the figures show that AsiaWorld-Expo exhibitions and conferences contributed around US$7 billion to the city’s economy between 2006 and 2010, a compound annual growth rate of 6.5 per cent.
