MACAU The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has extended its MICE subsidy programme until the end of this year.
The programme was launched in May 2009 and has since supported 246 events. These comprised 95 meetings and conventions, 47 exhibitions and 104 incentive events with a cumulative 1.1 million participants, involving financial support of US$6.4 million.
In 2010 Macau hosted 1,399 business events with an average length of stay of two-and-a-half days, up from 1,215 events averaging two days in 2009. The number of participants in 2010 was 806,135, a 41% year-on-year increase.
Upcoming events include six meetings and conventions, 20 exhibitions and 12 incentive programmes, which will receive support of US$3.8 million. An additional US$3.5 million is available for events signed before the year’s end.
