Event The 4th World Summit of Prosecutors General, Attorneys General and Chief Prosecutors
Venue Coex, Seoul
Organiser Coex
Delegates 400
Date June 30-July 1
The brief
This event brought together prosecutors general, attorneys general and chief prosecutors from 120 countries, as well as high-level officials from prominent international organisations such as the United Nations and the International Criminal Court. The two-day summit focused on “New Initiatives of the Prosecution Service” and worked to find practical ways to counter serious transnational crimes and facilitate high-profile extradition cases.
Challenges
The event required 120 speakers to be seated boardroom style so it needed a sophisticated acoustic system in place to ensure that interaction between the speakers was smooth and clear. Coex developed a complex turn-taking system using the “Bosch Digital Delegation System” and Coex’s own speaker managing and spot relaying system. This was supported by 40-inch PDP screens and 46-inch LED TV screens installed close to the roundtable, so the delegates could be seen and heard by all.
Behind the main table were 200 seats for assistants and note-takers. Construction for the acoustic equipment was complicated and took two days, in order to eliminate interference from the 120-plus microphones and provide surround-sound quality. The event had the intimacy of a small boardroom meeting despite the large number of speakers. In addition, there was a 15 by 4.8m widescreen LED panel on the main stage so attendees could see the whole conference.
Execution
Coex’s own conference organising team spent five months planning and constructing the set-up. As head of prosecution service of the hosting country, Joon Gyu Kim, the prosecutor-general for Korea, was the summit’s chairperson. Kim presided over the plenary sessions and the opening and closing ceremonies.
On the last day, the participants adopted the Seoul Declaration, which embodies their firm resolve to eradicate crime and promote international cooperation. The closing ceremony featured a showing of the Korean hit Nanta, an acoustic vocal performance and, as the finale, “International Pop of Night” – a singing and dancing extravaganza of pop songs from each continent at the congress.
