What corporate groups have visited Penang recently?
Many multinationals with offices in Malaysia choose Penang for meetings and incentives. Citibank, Sony and BMW are some of the big names we have welcomed recently. We also receive incentive groups on multi-destination cruises. Amway Indonesia brought 1,000 incentive winners here in late 2010. They visited local heritage sites and held a theme dinner at Gongxi Khoo. Amway India brought 2,800 incentive winners in 2009.
How can the bureau assist event planners?
Penang Tourism can host a welcome reception or dinner, arrange immigration and customs clearance for VIPs, secure government buildings and spaces for corporate events such as Penang Town Hall. We are also a resource for planners putting together a programme and work closely with local operators, so we can connect them with the appropriate suppliers.
What else do planners need to know?
The international airport is undergoing an expansion that will be completed by mid- 2012. Also, Time Out released a guidebook to Penang, which is not specifically targeted to MICE but provides a good overview of what is on offer.
