What is it?
1Borneo is a “hypermall” that, in addition to its massive retail offering, also incorporates four on-site hotels as well as convention and entertainment facilities. The complex opened in 2008 and is the largest of its kind in East Malaysia.
Event capabilities
The third-floor 1Borneo Grand Ballroom can seat 1,000 people for banquets or 1,700 in theatre style. There is a good-sized pre-function area surrounding it for welcome receptions and exhibitions.
What else?
There are several on-site venues for team activities. There is a 36-lane bowling alley, eight-screen Cineplex, bumper-car facility, amusement centre and a KTV venue. For market-style shopping there is a 1,800 sqm indoor Chinatown and a large handicraft and culture bazaar. 1Borneo Seaworld will open in the second half of this year. The facility is an underwater park with a walk-through aquarium filled with more than 500 species of marine life.
Accommodation options
The hotels are Novotel (263 guestrooms), Grand Borneo (338), Courtyard (160) and Tune (168). Novotel has large meeting facilities, including a 1,200–seat grand ballroom and six function rooms. Grand Borneo (formerly Mercure) also has meeting facilities for up to 120 people. n
