Who are the typical Indian MICE groups and numbers coming to Macau?
On average, between 150 to 400 people, but we have handled groups of around 2,500. We typically see financial, travel, technology, international trading, entertainment and production companies.
What types of incentives and entertainment do they seek?
They want lavish, over-the-top beauty. They really like international, Western and Chinese entertainment that is exotic and different. These have included anything from backstage tours of Cirque du Soleil to lavish spas, fun city tours and specially designed Macanese nights.
What needs to be taken into account when working with Indian MICE groups?
Many decisions seem to be made at the last minute, but they know what they want. Just as in all events, we are super flexible and adapt well to the rapidly changing environment.
Is Indian MICE a trend or a permanent addition to Macau’s market?
Permanent – we are only a four- to six-hour flight from India. We are a fun, unique destination and we are family friendly. Macau is continuing to grow rapidly and developing more places of interest. Indian awards shows are going to continue to come to Macau and increase the city’s exposure within India, driving even more traffic. Macau in general is just getting started. To have such an up-and-coming country visiting the city in droves is very exciting and should continue into the foreseeable future.
