BANGKOK Management at IMPACT convention and exhibition centre have announced a US$198 million proposal for a convention and hotel complex in downtown Bangkok. Tentative plans are for a 1.2-hectare site in Makasan close to the new airport rail link terminus.
Paul Kanjanapas, managing director, IMPACT Exhibition Management, said: “In 2011, IMPACT plans to expand its convention business to Makasan with a large complex including an auditorium for 2,000 delegates, a hotel with 500 rooms, smalland medium-sized convention rooms and a banquet hall for 2,000 guests.”
Management will also spend US$100 million on revamping its existing facility, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. Improvements will include renovations to the convention building, two new restaurants, landscaping and two additional carparks for 17,000 cars, as well as a walkway connecting IMPACT to the new on-site Novotel.
“The new connecting walkway will promote accessibility and safety for hotel guests when they join conferences, seminars or exhibitions,” said Kanjanapas.
The local industry remains skeptical however, waiting for concrete evidence of construction.
