Event Amway Korea Incentive, Jeju Island
Venue Hyatt Regency Jeju Island
Group size 8,000 people over seven waves
Date September 29 to October 27, 2010
The brief
Amway Korea’s 2010 Leadership Seminar is an annual event that brings together its top independent business owners (IBOs) to reward their sales achievements over the past year. Amway Korea wanted a major venue that could host large waves of incentive winners, accommodate their families and entertain them as well.
Challenges
Hyatt Regency Jeju reserved all its guestrooms and restaurants exclusively for the Amway Korea group for a 30-day period. To help with the large influx, the hotel employed short-term interns to ensure the success of this large-scale function.
Seven groups rotated through the resort over a one-month period, so the guests had to check in and out at the same time every five days, with only a three-hour window from check-in to check-out. To maximise guests’ satisfaction and make this process effective, all Rooms Division staff had to participate in making up the rooms to ensure a smooth check-in and check-out for all guests.
All meals were served buffet style, so each day the hotel had to alter the offerings so people felt they were getting a variety of different foods. Also, to ensure guests’ satisfaction, the hotel provided different foods based on a different range of concepts and nationalities over the four-night, five-day stay, as well as entertainment that included a musical show at the farewell dinner.
Execution
Over the 30-day period the participants were divided into seven groups, each of which came to Jeju for four nights and five days. All delegates arrived by chartered flights from across Korea. The IBOs toured Jeju Island each day, choosing from among 16 sightseeing and 11 family-themed programmes.
Jeju is a Unesco World Heritage Site with many points of natural beauty, including unique volcanic geographic features. Other tours included visits to Manjang Cave (reputedly the longest in the world), the Jeju Folk Village Museum and yacht tours.
Comment
A spokesperson from Amway Korea says they had no concerns about Hyatt Regency Jeju. “Hyatt Regency Jeju and Amway Korea have built a long-term, trusting relationship over the past few years,” he says. “Reserving all guestrooms for just one corporation for a whole month is a considerable feat and not an easy decision for a five-star hotel to make, so Amway Korea deeply appreciated the cooperation of Hyatt Regency Jeju.
“From the beginning of our event to its successful conclusion, its staff was kind and very professional in offering high-quality service that proved to be highly satisfactory to all the IBOs. Amway once again felt that Hyatt Regency Jeju offered service that exceeded guests’ expectations.”
