How is Bali placed for MICE business in 2011?
It’s difficult to put into numbers, but Bali is now becoming a desirable host for MICE events. Major international brands host their partners and guests in Bali clearly because they are convinced that Bali is safe, secure, obviously beautiful and on par with their prominent brands.
Next year looks promising with several international events to be held on the island including the 2011 International Conference on Environment Science and Engineering (ICESE 2011) and the 2nd International Conference on Biotechnology and Food Science (ICBFS 2011), both in April.
What are some interesting things MICE planners should look for next year?
In terms of activities, one that is highly recommended will be the Bali Agung Theatre at the Bali Safari Marine Park – this theatre offers a world-class performance, featuring the epic story of a famous Balinese king. The music, lights, choreography and the technology are just incredible.
New luxury hotels to open soon include Banyan Tree, Pullman and W. Jumeirah, InterContinental, Ritz-Carlton and Kempinski are on the way.
How is security in Bali today?
Bali is an established global destination that has survived tourism crises in the past, and the destination remains strong. The hotels take safety and security very seriously. All of the hotels and public areas have implemented modern security systems (boom gates, CCTV camera systems) and, in some places, regular checks made by the police.
The Integrated Police Radio Community initiative was also implemented this year, which links the public via VHF radio to the police. The system can provide reliable communications during emergencies as well as better accessibility to regular police.
Aside from this, the Bali Hotels Association’s unique programme for the tsunami warning system that works through SMS has now been taken up as an example for countries such as Chile and around Southeast Asia.
