The brief
Nu Skin Southeast Asia wanted to celebrate its 25th anniversary in a special location. The US-based direct sales company, a specialist in anti-ageing products and healthcare, wanted to reward its Asian distributors with a memorable incentive experience. The budget was US$2.5 million.
Challenges
Nu Skin Southeast Asia had originally planned to host a single incentive trip for 1,040 distributors from Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. However this posed problems with flight and accommodation arrangements. Organisers resolved the issue by splitting the distributors into two groups travelling on different dates. Each group was flown to Brisbane and transferred by road to the Gold Coast.
One of the programme highlights was dinner at McLaren’s Landing on South Stradbroke Island, north of Surfers Paradise. Transferring the group to the island was a logistical challenge because it’s a wilderness retreat with no regular boat service. A flotilla of five boats was arranged to ferry the group across, one of the largest ever transfers to the island.
The 750-person group wanted to create a formation in the shape of Australia for an aerial photo. It was difficult to achieve the elevation needed to take the picture. Organisers solved this by arranging a helicopter, allowing the photographer could take photos of the group on the beach from above.
Execution:
The event began with a city tour of Brisbane followed by a stop at Harbour Town, the biggest shopping centre in the region with more than 120 outlets.
On day two, the group visited the Dreamworld and Whitewater World theme parks. In the afternoon, three optional tours were offered that included Seaworld, Harbour Town shopping centre and QDeck observation tower.
On day three, the group went to Movie World and in the afternoon took a scenic whale-watching boat trip on the way to dinner at McLaren’s Landing. The evening was casual with entertainment and fresh Australian produce served at dinner.
Comment
Melisa Tantoco Quijano, president Southeast Asia, Nu Skin Enterprises, says the cruise and dinner at McLaren’s Landing was the most memorable part of the trip. “The Gold Coast Convention Bureau kept their promise to make the arrangements special,” she says. “We are sure our distributors feel rewarded for their accomplishments and will return to work energised and motivated.”
