After a multimillion-dollar refurbishment to the pool area at Mandarin Oriental, the Harbour Terrace now holds up to 30 tables for dinner and 450 people for cocktails. The space includes a built-in stage for performances and speeches. Guests get a spectacular view of the F1 circuit and fireworks displays during national events. An investment bank used the new space for a 250-person gala dinner during its annual conference.
NEW HOTEL
The luxurious 100-room Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore at Collyer Quay is the latest addition to the Marina Bay waterfront. The boutique hotel’s three function rooms offer boardroom-type meetings or private meals, and business events can be held in the three main F&B outlets.
Clifford Brasserie seats 76 diners, with a semi-private area for 10 guests and an outdoor dining terrace for hosted events. Total capacity is 128 people. The Landing Point, which has a spacious outdoor terrace, holds up to 136 people. At Lantern, the chic rooftop bar and pool, 150 cocktail-party guests can enjoy a spectacular view of the city skyline and Marina Bay.
NAME CHANGE
Following a US$18 million refurbishment in late 2009 and name change from Parkview to Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre, the 319-room hotel has repositioned its Crystal Ballroom and eight function rooms.
The ballroom now has a customised lighting system that transforms the mood of an event with eight colours and live video feed to six screens around the room. It seats 400 people theatre style and slightly fewer for lunch or dinner. The Executive Lounge can also be used for business meetings and cocktail parties.
The 308-room Grand Park Orchard soft-opened in August after a US$57 million makeover. Its Orchard Room seats 150 people and can be divided into two smaller meeting rooms. The landscaped outdoor pool and adjoining Bar Canary are suitable for pre-dinner cocktails and social get-togethers. A 33 sqm square-shaped event space has been created at one of Orchard Road’s busiest junctions. It can be used for product launches, roadshows and other promotional events, giving hosts high visibility. A 450 sqm, eight-storey-high media wall enables a live feed of the event.

Post-renovation, Sheraton Towers Singapore’s third-floor Towers Executive Lounge and three function rooms are maximising their views. Each of the 50 sqm rooms seats 16 people in U-shape or 24 in clusters. Their combined capacity is eight tables of eight persons or 140 theatre style.
An international human resource consultancy chose this venue for its “exclusive feel, as the foyer need not be shared with other events”. An event organiser from a petroleum company says: “Natural daylight enables our delegates to have something ‘green’ or an outside view to look at instead of four walls. This breaks the monotony of a long meeting.”
