The brief
This was the first off-site client event for Royal Motors, an 18-month-old luxury car dealership based in Bangkok. The owner wanted to host key clients outside its showroom to demonstrate Royal Motors’ commitment to providing a full-service experience.

Challenges

The threat of rain lingers over any summertime event in Hua Hin and the weather kept organisers guessing until the last moment. However, the likelihood meant when a shower began just prior to the event, the hotel was ready to execute the contingency plan.

“InterContinental Hua Hin managed to convert an outdoor dinner into a ballroom banquet within 15 minutes,” says Isariya Kuhapremkit, CEO of Royal Motors. “It was amazing, especially considering that the precision and detail of the table settings were retained.

“We decided to keep the opening presentations on the lawn. Guests concerned about the rain returning were still able to see the cars from under the cover of the hotel.”

Execution
Two luxury automobiles were transported from Bangkok for the event. The first was the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the second was an original 1955 model, a rare vintage piece.

Guests travelled from Bangkok by private car or on the specially arranged shuttle service. Upon arrival guests enjoyed in-room check-in and were greeted by a model of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, as well as a smaller chocolate replica made by the hotel’s culinary team.

The cars were displayed on the lawn with a stage at the centre. This gave guests an opportunity to be photographed with the vehicles while enjoying glasses of champagne.

A short series of speeches welcomed the group, ending with the presentation of the menu by executive chef, René Oskam. Guests then headed to the ballroom for dinner and were entertained by musical acts including a jazz singer.

Organisers worked closely with the hotel’s chefs on the menu, which included sustainable blue-fin tuna, lobster and a wide selection of cheeses. Special arrangements were also made for breakfast. Guests could choose from in-room breakfast, a la carte at Azure or buffet at Thai restaurant, Pirom.

After breakfast some guests headed to Centennial Park, the nearby international tennis stadium where the hotel had arranged a test-drive circuit for trying out the latest car models.

Comment
“InterContinental Hua Hin Resort was a perfect marriage for this event,” says Kuhapremkit. “Being InterContinental I knew the event was in professional hands and the silver cars looked great against the green lawn.

“The classic Rama VI design features throughout the contemporary hotel setting also matched the vintage and modern feel of the two featured automobiles.”
