KUALA LUMPUR The Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) has announced a slew of event wins.

The Federation of International Surveyors (FIG) will meet at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) for its General Assembly and International Congress in May 2014. It will attract 3,000 delegates and add US$11 million for the local economy.

“Both during the evaluation process and the presentation in Sydney, the FIG members were impressed by the technical facilities that both Kuala Lumpur and KLCC Convention Centre can offer a major international congress like the FIG congress and tradeshow,” said FIG director, Markku Villikka.

“A very important aspect was the fact that Kuala Lumpur is offering excellent value for money and all key components [conference centre, hotels and main attractions] are within walking distance, which is important from both a logistical and ecological point of view.”

The eight-day meeting will be the federation’s first in Asia in its 136-year history. “Our members were impressed by the Malaysian surveyors’ enthusiasm in getting the FIG Congress to Malaysia, especially linking the young professionals in the bidding process and congress concept,” he said.

The Centre will also host 1,500 delegates for the 13th International Society of Blood Transfusion’s Regional Congress in 2013.
