SINGAPORE The recently launched Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Services (Suntec International) has been appointed the sole sales and marketing representative for Vancouver Convention Centre (VCC).

The North American venue aims to boost its visibility and draw more events from Asia by harnessing Suntec International’s regional network and market knowledge.

“This representation agreement is one of Vancouver Convention Centre’s strategies to expand its global footprint and to tap into new areas of potential growth, particularly in Asia,” said Claire Smith, vice president of sales and marketing, Vancouver Convention Centre. “The key factor in choosing Suntec International is its pioneering experience and proven business model (in Suntec Singapore).

“In making this move to enter the Asian market, it makes sense to utilise the proven and successful services that Suntec International offers for sales and marketing representation to avoid reinventing the wheel.”

Under the agreement Suntec International will conduct research and feasibility studies, formulate strategies and provide recommendations. The partnership will also see Suntec International pitching Vancouver as a destination and the convention centre as a premier venue.

Pieter Idenburg, CEO of Suntec International, said: “With Asia as a rising global economic powerhouse and strong progressive trends in the region, the infrastructure in the region is constantly advancing and results in this geographic area offering endless opportunities.

“We are confident that Suntec International’s market knowledge and reach will greatly enhance VCC’s presence in the Asian market.”

The initiatives at Suntec International will be headed by Chu Pui Wia, director of sales and marketing – international business development.

Suntec International was formed in May in response to regional demand for the venue management skills developed at Suntec Singapore. It provides venue management, sales and marketing representation and consultancy services.
