A lot of my clients request South Africa. It is a high-potential destination, people want to know more about the different cultures there. Groups also want to see the ‘
Big 5’ – lions, rhinoceros, buffalo, elephants and leopards.
Johannesburg is a bit too dangerous for us but Cape Town is more mixed and interesting. The sunshine and beach views are great. My first impressions of Cape Town were that it is very important, the city looks grand and well decorated. The
Cape of Good Hope is a highlight although wineries are not of interest to the Hong Kong market. The long-haul flight is a slight barrier for MICE groups from Hong Kong.

South Africa has many choices for off-site events, we could easily split up a large group and send them to different venues. The Cape tour and
Table Mountain are also brilliant options for group experiences.
Cape Town is also fantastic, a combination of culture and lifestyle just like Europe. I could really feel the difference of being there. I would say no to Johannesburg because of security.
The DMCs and PCOs I met were all professional although I’d prefer a Chinese operator who understands our needs. Flight capacity is important for us because our groups depart from different cities across China.

I have brought many groups to South Africa before. On this trip I found some new reception centres. I take my groups to
Johannesburg as it is the commercial centre of the country, they also like
Sun City.
My clients want to make partnerships in the economic heart of the country. Cape Town is good, but not during winter.
Pilansberg National Park is good. My groups must see wild animals. South Africa also has good hotels and venues for conferences and exhibitions. Safety is a concern but I have personally found it to be okay.

My groups are usually exhibitions for government groups. I bring eight groups per year to South Africa. It’s an excellent business events destination. We only bring groups here for a week, which means you can do three cities at the most.
I found plenty of new activities on this trip to South Africa, including the
Franschhoek wineries which I enjoyed. I also liked visiting
Johannesburg, there are many Chinese people there and the quality of
Chinese food is good.
