Stephanie Ong, director of destination management and special events at Pacific World, says: “The difference is that at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) there are six different properties and styles compared to one very large property at Marina Bay Sands (MBS).
Each venue has its own appeal, catering to different client tastes. “The vast size of MBS makes it suitable for conference plenary and breakout sessions, which can be held on one level.
As a social venue, Universal Studios is very popular for events in Singapore. “Both venues are winning business across all markets, despite the perception that one is more geared towards leisure, while the other is more convention-oriented.”

However, organisers of the
Asian Banker Summit 2010, held at RWS in April, say RWS sits better within the leisure market, rather than for C-level business events. With more than 700 delegates, 60 per cent of them from overseas, accommodation at RWS was limited and more suited to families and younger guests. Sessions were split across two floors of the convention centre.
Asian Banker director Caroline Grimont says: “RWS is best suited to smaller conferences of 200 to 300 delegates. But it does have the latest facilities and our exhibition and awards evening went well.”
