Venue Harbour Grand Hong Kong
Organiser Facility Media
Delegates 200
Date January 26-27
The brief
Facility Media wanted to host an event for stakeholders involved in Hong Kong’s US$30 billion of infrastructure projects currently underway. The conference aimed to share information about the latest developments and technologies, and to network with government, infrastructure corporations, developers, urban planners, architects, consultants and contractors.
The group also wanted to raise funds for The Lighthouse Club, a Hong Kong charity that provides financial assistance to families of workers affected by construction accidents.
Challenges
As a new hotel, there were some issues with the event management team. Lunch was held in the hotel’s Harbour Grand Café, but the team was unwilling to provide a dedicated section for delegates due to conflicting bookings.
“We did have some issues with the management of the event by the Harbour Grand, particularly with the inflexibility of the team to accommodate our requests regarding the buffet lunch,” says Ashford Pritchard, conference producer and editor at Facility Media. “Despite this, we did notice some improvement from past events held at the hotel and would still consider them for upcoming events.”
Execution
Facility Media had previously held an event in the hotel’s Salon rooms, but this wasn’t large enough for the Urban Infrastructure event.
“The ballroom was a perfect fit,” says Pritchard. “We divided the space in two – one side for the conference and the other for coffee breaks and the sponsor’s area. It also meant we could host the cocktail reception within the sponsor’s area.”
Comment
“Feedback from sponsors and delegates was very positive. We are already rolling out a similar event in Singapore that will focus on infrastructure in Southeast Asia,” says Pritchard. “The event was a great success and helped to raise a significant contribution to our charitable partner, The Lighthouse Club.”
