Event Singapore International Arbitration Forum 2010 Closing Dinner
Organiser Maxwell Chambers
Venue Marina Barrage, Singapore
Group size 300 delegates and guests
Date January 22

The brief
The inaugural Singapore International Arbitration Forum in January hosted top international arbitration practitioners and experts from around the world, who came together to share their insights and experiences. To conclude the conference, a relaxed closing dinner was held at new venue Marina Barrage, which boasts an impressive night view of the city skyline. The dinner’s theme was 'The Heart of Asia'.

Challenges
There were two transport options for travelling to the Barrage and this required extra coordination. Attendees could take a coach ride from Raffles City Convention Centre, or a boat transfer that involved a short drive to Boat Quay. The highlight was a sunset cruise down the Singapore River into Marina Bay. An additional challenge was rounding up delegates who had returned to their rooms to change or pack for late-night flights.

Execution
With sufficient signs and staffing by event manager, MP International, transfers went smoothly. Delegates on the river cruise saw the old Parliament House, financial district and Marina Bay Sands on the way to the Barrage.

Upon arrival, stilt walkers and fire twirlers led attendees to the inner compound where a colourful array of Asian food stalls presented Korean, Japanese, Indonesian and Indian cuisines. A cultural stage show and roving performers entertained the crowd. Delegates also enjoyed sweeping views of Marina Bay and the city skyline from the rooftop.

Comment
The multicultural event was well received, especially by first-time visitors to Singapore. Ban Jiun Ean, deputy chief executive of Maxwell Chambers, says: “The event went well and many of the delegates said they enjoyed themselves immensely. We were glad the weather was pleasant, which was our single greatest concern given the outdoor venue.

“The aim of showing Singapore as a vibrant and exciting business destination was achieved and many foreign delegates left with a strong sense of what we are about and what we’re able to do.”
