KUALA LUMPUR MyCEB, the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau, and Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) have formed a strategic partnership to attract international conventions to Malaysia.
The partnership will see MyCEB provide SCB with national-level support, as well as bid support in the form of government liaison and funding. By pooling resources, MyCEB will also capitalise on SCB’s current bid success rate of 70%.
The collaboration is already seeing MyCEB work with SCB in supporting five conferences, as well as bids for a further two conventions. The confirmed conferences are expected to attract 3,500 delegates, with a total estimated expenditure of US$2.7 million.
MyCEB chief executive officer, Zulkefli Muhammad Sharif, said: “We are pleased to have the experienced team at the Sarawak Convention Bureau as part of Team Malaysia to collaborate in growing the MICE industry under the 1Malaysia concept.”
One of its first joint initiatives was hosting a dinner in January, briefing 74 decision-makers from the association industry on the Team Malaysia concept. This partnership comes in the wake of MyCEB’s appointment of MICE specialist Gary Grimmer & Company to provide strategic input and aimed at strengthening MyCEB’s role.
A record 32 Malaysian exhibitors took part at AIME in Melbourne in early March, including the SCB.
