SHANGRI-LA MACTAN RESORT & SPA, CEBU
The 547-room Shangri-La offers a separate beach venue, Paradise Island, in the heart of its 350-metre wide private cove. The venue is a discreet setting for functions, catering for up to 15 people for dinner or 40 for a cocktail party.

The beachfront can be transformed for a themed party, for example, the ‘Barrio Fiesta – Mabuhay’, a Filipino-inspired festival. This event involves a cultural feast with lively music, dancing and an array of traditional Filipino food.

For panoramic ocean views, groups can book the Ocean Pavilion which is set upon the ocean’s edge and is suitable for hosting up to 70 people for an intimate cocktail reception.

DUSIT THANI PHUKET
The Dusit Thani is located on Bang Tao Bay, one of the longest stretches of beach in Phuket, and part of the Laguna integrated resort development.

In June 2009, security group G4S used the hotel’s beachfront location to its best advantage for a four-day event. This included the ‘Phuket Amazing Race’ teambuilding activity, which had teams constructing and then racing rafts in the Andaman Sea.

The group held welcome and farewell dinner parties on the beach and at the Columbia garden next to the beachfront.

For the farewell party, the area was decked out with fire torches, and decorated in a beach theme with shells and fishermen’s nets, with Polynesian dancers to entertain guests.

CONRAD BALI
After a sunrise breakfast in one of the Conrad Bali’s 14 beach bales, guests can take part in a variety of morning exercises including yoga and beach volleyball.

There are also off-site options available including a dolphin-watching trip or turtle farm tour.

Ocean Garden, a 1,200 sqm reserve on the beachfront, is the hotel’s best location for meetings and events. Here, groups can arrange a banquet dinner for 300 people in an air-conditioned marquee while still enjoying the amazing surrounding area.

For one client, the hotel created a tented city with 12 tents for different food stations. Another event involved a circus marquee with clowns, martial arts, acrobats and animals.
