Client Asia Patent Attorneys' Association (APAA)
Event organiser Swire Travel
Venue DDeck, Discovery Bay
Delegates 1,200
Date November 19
The brief
The evening’s theme was Rediscover Asia’s World City.
Challenges
Organisers expected the economic downturn to limit attendance to 800 people. However, more than 1,400 registered for the dinner. While a great success, the organisers, hotel staff, transportation providers and restaurants worked hard to maintain the event’s quality.
Execution
Three chartered ferries shuttled delegates from HKCEC to Discovery Bay, where dancers and magicians awaited and ‘APAA 2009’ was spelt in thousands of candles on the foreshore.
Six restaurants along DDeck catered a buffet dinner, while live music and dance performances were held on stage.
European tall ship, The Bounty, was deployed with the APAA logo on its main sail, and delegates were invited to board the ship and interact with the 'pirates'. Meanwhile, the fireworks at Hong Kong Disneyland provided an impressive backdrop.
Comment
“The outcome was excellent and The Bounty enhanced the atmosphere,” says Eva Lai, senior manager – destinations and events management, Swire Travel.
