SEOUL Major conferences continue to be attracted to Seoul with the city being chosen as the host for the 2015 International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) General Assembly and Conference.
The conference is the industry’s peak event and will attract more than 3,000 international chemical scientists to the city.
A spokesperson for the Korean Chemical Society, which worked to bring the event to Seoul, said: “The General Assembly will highlight our position in the IUPAC and the global chemical fraternity that first began with Korea’s participation in the 22nd IUPAC, held in London in 1963.”
Established in 1919, IUPAC is a global chemical sciences organisation with 53 national member organisations and 12 associate member organisations. Its congress is held every two years with the 2011 event being held in Puerto Rico, followed by Turkey in 2013.
The win continues Seoul’s impressive year of wins, with the city also recently securing the bid to host the world’s largest congress for ear, nose and throat specialists in 2013.
