HONG KONG Regional meeting planners will soon have greater resources available when organising sustainable events, following Green Globe’s recognition of Ovation Global DMC’s efforts with Bronze-Benchmarked status.
“Ovation is committed to corporate social responsibility for ethical, moral and business reasons,” said Guy Bigwood, group sustainability director at parent company, MCI Group. “We have an obligation to not only change our own internal business systems to be more sustainable, but also to inspire and lead our partners and clients on the path to sustainability.”
Two years ago, the group established MCI Sustainability Services, a dedicated business unit that provides sustainability consulting to event organisers, destinations and suppliers. In the past 12 months, MCI’s management team has given more than 45 presentations on CSR and sustainability, reaching more than 4,000 people.
Green Globe accreditation is an important part of the group’s sustainability practices for two key reasons, according to Claire Saunders, managing director, MCI Hong Kong. She said: “Green Globe’s programme gives structure to the CSR actions in each local office as well as external verification of the procedures, which helps us communicate our commitment internally and externally.”
