Event 8th Meeting of AMEICC Working Group on Statistics (AMEICC WGS) and the 4th East Asia Expert Meeting on Manufacturing Statistics (EAMS)
Organiser National Statistics Office of the
Philippines (NSO)
Venue Hilton Cebu Resort & Spa
Delegates 41
Date June 9-11

The brief
The National Statistics Office of the Philippines organised this regional meeting to discuss distributive trade statistics and report on the overall activities of AMEICC.

Challenges
The NSO worked hard on organising a travel schedule that was suitable for each delegate, coordinating travel from Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Most delegates had direct flights to Cebu and those that transited via Manila were not required to stay overnight. Delegates stayed in Cebu for between three and seven nights.

The hotel had several concurrent events during the conference including one for a pharmaceutical company that involved live music. They had to ensure soundproofing was adequate so the meetings would not be disturbed.

Execution

Organisers included one off-site event each day. The welcome dinner was held at Laguna Garden Terraces and an optional city tour of Cebu that took in historical sites and shopping was held on the final day. The hotel’s Fiery Night Dinner on the second evening was a highlight of the event.

The conference was held in the hotel ballroom with microphones and the relevant national flag at each seat. There were four sessions on both of the first two days, split by coffee breaks and lunch.

Comment

"The great success in organising the Cebu Meeting was made possible by Hilton Cebu’s valuable cooperation,” says Mikihito Murakami, director, METI.
