The brief
Go Green Cebu Fair wanted various stakeholders to share their expertise and raise awareness on green initiatives among Cebu’s residents. In line with its Corporate Social Responsibility vision, Shangri-La spearheaded the event.

Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was finding speakers for the event as ‘going green’ is still a relatively new subject matter in the Philippines.

Execution
Day one consisted of a series of seminars from experts on best practice and sustainable initiatives. Day two began with a beach clean-up with resort employees, Go Green sponsors, speakers and volunteers spending the early morning cleaning up the waters of the resort.

The culminating day of the Go Green Cebu Fair fell on Earth Hour celebrations. Earth Hour cocktails were hosted at the Mactan Ballroom gardens for conference speakers, sponsors and exhibitors.

A symbolic pledge was made and guests shared their personal pledges. These ranged from planting more trees, observing the principles of reduce, re-use and recycle to simpler acts of turning off the air conditioning units.

Guests counted down to Earth Hour as the resort turned off non-essential lights during this period.
