CEI Asia talks to Dexter Deyto, senior assistant vice-president of SMX Convention Center:
Opened in November 2007, the US$37 million three-storey SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Manila consists of open exhibition areas, multi-functional halls and flexible meeting rooms. The venue is part of the Mall of Asia Complex, which has future plans for hotels and a 12,000-seat arena.
Tell us what is new at SMX Convention Centre this year?
An expansion of SMX will start in the first quarter of 2010 and will be completed by the second half of 2011. With a floor area of 15,400 sqm, the expansion will be located behind and connected to the SMX main building. In addition, the 500-room tower of the Radisson Hotel will be integrated with the SMX Annex.
SMX is also offering international meeting packages at very reasonable prices. Full-day packages costs US$35 per person and half-day packages are US$26 per person. Included in the package is lunch, free-flow of tea and coffee. Also included is a discount card for shopping at the SM mall of Asia Department Stall.
What recent events have you hosted?
SMX Convention Center has proved to be a good venue for events hosted by international contact centres like HSBC Global Service Centre, Accenture and Convergys. In February the Travel Tour Expo saw 59,000 visitors, Eco-Products International Fair in March saw 83,000 visitors, and Asia’s Gaming and Entertainment Expo saw 6,000 delegates.

The International Food Expo (May), Manila International Book Fair (September), Manufacturing Technology World (October), World Chinese Entrepreneur Congress (November), Asia Pacific Dental Congress (May 2011).
