Michele Sanvictores, external relations director, Asia Pacific region for MCI Group:
Shanghai has improved the overall look of its local parks and large boulevards with increased greenery. This began just prior to the Olympic Games and has continued in full force in preparation for the World Expo. The local MICE industry welcomes these changes and is eager for the opportunities World Expo will bring.
The facilities at World Expo will also provide more opportunities for associations and corporations to conduct meetings at unique venues. The government is placing a strong emphasis on the MICE industry.
Professional organisers
The Shanghai Tourism Administration (STA) has worked with several professional conference organisers, including MCI, to educate conference ambassadors through joint workshops this year. STA recognises the importance of cooperation between various parties, government agencies, PCOs, local scientific committees and others to bring an international event to Shanghai.
Shanghai’s two airports are also easily accessible from many global cities. Pudong Airport, further from downtown Shanghai, also has the futuristic Maglev train to enhance visitors’ experiences of modern Shanghai.
Shanghai has many different neighbourhoods for MICE groups to explore – from walks in the old French Concession area to the modern lane-house developments of Xintiandi, which have emerged into a leading shopping and dining centre. Also, the combination of the Bund’s views, historical Puxi and futuristic Pudong is captivating for visitors.
