The area where the main hotels are located is called Yalong Bay. Nearby is also Sanya Bay – both part of Sanya. Shimei Bay, Boao and Haikou are all several hours from Sanya.

YALONG BAY HOTELS
The Yalong Bay area is the most popular part of the island. The water is crystal clear, the beaches are perfect and the atmosphere is easygoing, all of which are complemented by the first-class quality of its hotels and the wide range of indoor and outdoor function space. All hotels are low rise and most have their own beachfront as well.

The 501-room Hilton Sanya is one of the properties at the end of the beach. It also features its own MICE Pavilion that is spread over two levels and offers more than 3,000 sqm of meeting space.

The 432-room Sanya Marriott offers 11 meeting rooms among its 1,250 sqm of event space, while the 511-room Sheraton Sanya features a 1,250 sqm ballroom. Next door, Hotel Gloria offers 404 guestrooms and a ballroom that holds 550 for banquets.

Crowne Plaza is the area’s leading business events property with 463 guestrooms and 2,380 sqm of meeting space in a separate wing of the hotel, although it is also the only property without its own beachfront as it is just across the road.

SANYA BAY
Kempinski is the only international hotel on Sanya Bay, again with its own beachfront. The 408-room property has an 800 sqm ballroom and an excellent garden for outdoor functions. It is a 30-minute drive from Yalong Bay.

The 275-room Le Meridien Shimei Bay Beach Resort and Spa has only just opened and is another standalone property on a secluded beach. It has reasonable meetings facilities, but its biggest asset is its isolation, being located 150km from Sanya.

Further along the coast is Sofitel Boao. The highlight of this 437-room property is the BFA Convention Center, which can seat up to 2,000 delegates in a secure location on the coast.

HAIKOU
In the island’s north, the town of Haikou is home to a 341-room Sheraton with meeting space for 540 theatre style and a 318-room Meritus Mandarin.

NEW OFFERINGS
The small-scale Pullman Sanya opened in 2008 with 78 rooms and 115 villas, each with its own pool. Its ballroom holds 250 for a banquet. The 297-room Mandarin Oriental opened in February on its own beachfront. Its largest meeting space holds 400 theatre style while its smallest room size is 52 sqm.

For luxury incentives, the 450-room Ritz-Carlton opened last year on its own area of beachfront and offers 1,700 sqm of conference space, while Banyan Tree opened recently with 49 pool villas.

Renaissance, Jumeirah, Four Points, Westin, St. Regis and InterContinental will all open in Yalong Bay and Shimei Bay over the next few years.
