MACAU The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) has launched a US$8.4 million stimulus package to boost the territory’s international MICE appeal. The Strategic MICE Market Stimulation Program comprises a basic package and three initiatives assisting meetings and conventions, exhibitions and incentives respectively.
The basic package provides event planners with bidding and promotional assistance as well as liaison support with government departments, such as fast-track immigration. Financial assistance is also available for accommodation, catering and site inspections.
Abbie McCrisken, director of events – Macau at regional DMC, Off-Site Connections, said: “It’s great to see an incentive scheme in place that will drive interest and MICE groups to the exciting destination of Macau. We will be marketing this stimulus plan via our extensive networks to let clients know the benefits available.”
Qualified exhibition organizers are eligible for subsidies on accommodation, venue rental, hardware, site inspections and the opening ceremony. Incentive groups with 100 overseas participants who spend two nights in Macau will qualify for US$40 per participant.
To qualify, planners must confirm reservations by December 31, 2009. There is no limit on the event date.
