Jerard Bacjar, director of the Dubai Convention Bureau, tells CEI Asia about his plans for the city-state's MICE market.
Is Dubai on track to becoming a leading regional MICE hub?
Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB) will continue to grow in the MICE market segment. DCB has increased objectives for our Asian sales representatives to increase opportunities for our stakeholders.
What are the main challenges facing Dubai?
Dubai is facing the same difficulties as the rest of the world. Economic struggles are challenging us to diversify our strategies to ensure we have the right business mix.
What services does DCB provide?
We are dedicated to pursuing and winning events for Dubai and promoting Dubai both nationally and internationally as a leading MICE destination. Dubai Convention Bureau prides itself on delivering impartial advice to meeting planners.
What key things should regional event organisers know about Dubai?
That Dubai is able to offer incredible value for an incredible destination. Our venue partners are working hard to package and offer incentives to attract customers now and into the future. We are counting on long-term relationships with all our clients.
How is Dubai attracting MICE business?
The MICE community in Dubai is working together to share information, ideas and approaches to the international market. There is strong representation on the DCB Bid Committee and strong support in our upcoming trade shows. We are also working to expand our Al Safeer programme, building a larger network of local congress hosts.
What are some new venues available in Dubai for MICE groups?
There are some amazing new products opening in the near future, including two new Address Hotels, a Sofitel and new Rotana products. There is an enhanced awareness of some alternative venues as well, such as the Dubai Polo Club and the new Marina Yacht Club.
