The brief
Mary Kay (China) wanted to reward its top-performing salespeople with a company trip that provided training, recognition and motivation. This year is the 14th anniversary of the company’s launch in China and they were determined to mark it with a memorable occasion.

Challenges
“Our key principle is ‘Golden Rule Service’ so, in turn, we work hard to generate a ‘wow’ feeling for our group,” says Jason Zhang, sales events and administration director, Mary Kay (China).

“Crowne Plaza Mutiara allowed us to decorate the lobby in our corporate colours for the all-important welcome. There were local instruments and dancers performing in traditional costumes. We also placed room gifts in the top-tier salespeoples’ rooms.”

Execution
Each year the trip is held in a different location worldwide. “We selected Kuala Lumpur as it is close to China, good value and its culture is similar to what our group is familiar with at home,” says Zhang. “This meant it was easy to communicate with the local people.”

Staff met in four key Chinese cities before flying to Malaysia. Upon arrival, Mary Kay organised an airport welcome for the group in conjunction with Tourism Malaysia.

A two-day training programme was held in Crowne Plaza Mutiara’s function rooms. The final day was left free for incentive winners to go sightseeing and shopping.

The gala dinner was held in the hotel’s ballroom and staff were rewarded with on-stage recognition of their achievements. Off-site activities included seafood dinners, shopping at Central Market and a group photo in front of the landmark Petronas Twin Towers.

Comment
Zhang was very impressed with the event. “Crowne Plaza Mutiara matched our needs and provided a very good venue. The service was also excellent – they listened to our special needs and requirements, then helped us achieve them.”
